The Official Formula 1T Season Review 2012
An unrivalled insight into the on-track action and behind-the-scenes details of the 2012 Formula 1 season

Foreword by Bernie Ecclestone

Now in its ninth year, The Official Formula 1™ Season Review 2012 was published just a week and a half after the final race in Brazil.

This lavish 288-page hardback book, which includes over 500 stunning photographs, comprehensive race reports and in-depth technical analysis, catalogues a thrilling season of unpredictable racing, that saw eight different winners from six different teams. Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso gradually drew ahead of the opposition to take the fight for the Driver’s World Championship to the breathtaking season finale in Brazil, Vettel taking the title by a slender three points to win his third successive World Championship.

The Official Formula 1™ Season Review 2012 provides an unrivalled ‘access-all-areas’ pass to learn first-hand the details behind the stories of the season’s 20 races in a year that saw up-and-coming young drivers challenge the established stars. Nico Rosberg and Pastor Maldonado both scored their first victories, with Sergio Perez taking three podium positions, narrowly missing out on a win in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the 2012 season became Michael Schumacher’s Formula 1 swansong, and Lewis Hamilton drove in his final race for McLaren, before moving to the Mercedes team for 2013. Other race winners included Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, and Kimi Räikkönen, who returned to F1 in 2012 to win in Abu Dhabi. The key personalities involved, including the drivers, plus senior team personnel, throw new light on many of the season's headlines and incidents, presenting an authoritative account of the 2012 FIA Formula One World Championship.

In addition to comprehensive race reports, superb feature content includes a look behind the scenes at the development of each of the 12 teams’ cars over the year, an appraisal by each of the 25 drivers of his own season, and a discussion by a ‘round table’ of paddock insiders, who get together to debate the leading trends and topics of the 2012 season.

At the frenetic final race in Brazil, Sebastian Vettel survived being pushed into a spin on the first lap, which damaged his car and put him to the back of the field, while his title rival Fernando Alonso mastered the tricky conditions and overcame several setbacks to finish a fine second – Vettel scoring sufficient points to deny him the championship by finishing sixth. The new triple World Champion was unsure of the championship outcome until the final laps, as he explains: “I didn’t know if I’d done enough. I’d been told it should be fine, then I saw the crash from Nico [Hulkenberg] and Hamilton, and I knew they had been ahead of Fernando, so I didn’t know again. Then we limped home under the safety car, and to get told it was okay again was unbelievable. They couldn’t hear my answer, because the radio was broken!”

The Official Formula 1™ Season Review 2012 captures a stunning season of on-track action, where despite an increasing emphasis on technology and regulation, the quality of racing has been second to none.
